So you’re invited to a super surprise party and you need to prepare for the virtual event. The good news, getting dressed is 50% faster! Just throw on your favourite party shirt and you’re good to go. Shoes, socks and pants are always optional at a zoom party.

Pros only. Make sure you know where that camera’s pointed at all times!

But you will need two important things:

  1. Download Zoom, NOW! Not on the day. (unless you downloaded it within the last month or so, you should also try updating it)
  2. Download our chosen virtual background and apply it (again, before the big day)

Here are your instructions for getting these two steps done. Any problems, just shoot an email to our tech support lead: TryTurningItOffAndOnAgain@RileyJames.co

How to setup a virtual background?

First up, what is a virtual background? It’s a special effect for Zoom which superimposes your face/body on top of a background of your choice. It’s like standing in front of a green screen! In order to use a virtual background you must have a zoom account (which is free to create).

This is the virtual background we’ve chosen:

Havana, Cuba

You can download it here: https://imgur.com/download/b1QefhL

It’s also attached to the email.

How to download, install & setup Zoom:

I’ve included instructions for each system below.

Windows / Mac / Macbook

  1. Save the virtual background to your computer: https://imgur.com/download/b1QefhL
  2. Visit the Zoom Download Page: https://zoom.us/download

3. Click download

The big download button, say no more, say no more.

4. Once you’ve installed Zoom, open it.

5. In order to use a virtual background you will need an account (free). If you have one, sign in, if not, create one.

5. Now that you have signed in, click on your profile picture and then click “Settings”.

Click on your Profile picture and then click “Settings”

6. Click “Virtual Background”. Do NOT click “I have a green screen”.

7. Now you can add your virtual background. Click the plus symbol, select “add image” and then select the virtual background we downloaded earlier.

You can now see a preview of your camera with the virtual background. It’s pretty good, but not perfect. While it doesn’t have to be perfect, you will find different results based on what’s behind you. A wall of one solid colour should work best.

iPhone / iPad:

How to save an image on iPhone / iPad
  1. Save the virtual background to your photos: https://imgur.com/download/b1QefhL
  2. To save the image, tap and hold on the image, then select “Save Image” (see above)
  3. Download Zoom: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id546505307
  4. Once downloaded, open the application
  5. Create a free zoom account or sign into your existing account
  6. For iPhone / iPad you can only setup a virtual background while you’re in a meeting. So tap “New Meeting”, then “Start a Meeting”
  7. Now tap the “… More” button in the bottom right corner, and then “Virtual Background”
  8. Press the plus button and select the photo you saved earlier.
  9. You can now preview how your virtual background will look.

Note: Your background will be setup for every meeting you join now, so if you have other meetings coming up you may wish to choose “None” until the date of the party :)

Android Phone / Tablet:

  1. Download Zoom: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=us.zoom.videomeetings

2. Unfortunately virtual backgrounds are not supported for Zoom on Android. You should send them an angry email.

And you’re done!

See you at the party!
